ABOUT US

For those living in the Khumbu Valley of Nepal receiving healthcare could mean 4-6 hours or even multiple days of walking to be seen by a physician. At times, people of the Valley will even carry their loved ones on their back to be treated at the nearest clinic. Imagine not feeling well or carrying a sick family member to a medical clinic, only to be informed that the facility does not have the expertise or medical supplies needed for treatment. The nearest specialist is hundreds of miles away in Kathmandu and your only means of transportation is to fly out of the region for expert counsel and care.

Access to healthcare should be a basic human right. Unfortunately, for those born into extreme environments, like the Khumbu region of Nepal, there is a large barrier to even the most basic healthcare. 3rd World serves people living in the most extreme environments across the world, like the Himalayas, to improve access to quality healthcare. We decrease the barrier by connecting clinics to physicians in Kathmandu and the United States via telehealth, building more clinics to reduce walking distance to care, stocking facilities with medical supplies and pharmaceuticals, and supporting local medical staff.
